Connected - Chrome - Pre-Roll - 1g

Chrome is Connected's one-gram straight-roll pre-roll of indoor hybrid flower, sold as a single with nothing added. The brand's Weedmaps listing gives the cross as Area 41 x Creme de Menthe #14, and both Connected's own strain page and Weedmaps call it a hybrid. The name is about the look: Connected says the buds carry so much frost they shine like polished metal. Expect fuel and mint with tart berries in between, and a high the brand describes as creative first, relaxed later.

Genetics & Lineage

Both parents come from Alien Labs, the brand Connected describes as its longtime partner. Alien Labs lists Area 41 as Lemon Fuel OG x Gelato #41 and says the idea was to give an old-school OG cut the bag appeal of Gelato 41, selecting for that Lemon Fuel flavor. Creme de Menthe, per Alien Labs, is an unknown strain crossed with Kush Mints, and a favorite of the brand's own cultivation staff. Neither company has said who made the Chrome cross or what the #14 marks. Connected's press materials do describe a breeding and cultivation program the two brands have shared for years.

Two cautions on the record. Connected's strain page names no parents at all, and Leafly's Chrome page, which has no reviews yet, lists Biscotti x Gushers instead. We follow the cross Connected published on its own listing. Separately, AllBud describes a different Chrome, a pure indica of unknown parentage, and Candy Chrome and Chrome Dome are other strains altogether.

Flavor & Aroma

Crack the package and Connected says the first thing up is a crisp hit of eucalyptus, lemon and sour berry, with mint, gas and grape candy sitting underneath. The smoke, by the brand's account, opens on heavy fuel, brings raspberry and grape in behind it, and closes earthy, with roasted hazelnut and a mint that stays on the tongue. Weedmaps tags it berry, grape, lemon, mint and nutty. Connected has published no terpene list for Chrome.

The family tree explains most of it. Leafly reviewers of Area 41 report lemon and nutty flavors, plus a sharp ammonia edge, which lines up with the citrus and hazelnut here. Alien Labs describes Creme de Menthe as creamy and a little yeasty going in, with a clean Kush Mints finish going out, and Leafly's handful of Creme de Menthe reviewers taste vanilla, mint and sweetness. Gas leads, mint closes, fruit fills the middle.

Effects

Potent but balanced is how Connected sums up the high. Its account: a clear, creative head that suits ideas and fun, with the body unwinding afterward. Weedmaps tags Chrome creative, relaxed and uplifted. Leafly has no Chrome reviews yet, so the parents fill in the picture. Area 41's reviewers report feeling aroused, talkative and euphoric. Creme de Menthe's small group leans creative, uplifted and euphoric, and Alien Labs promises that parent delivers a "full blown cerebral face melt."

Read together, that points to a head-first high with the body arriving later. Dry mouth, dizziness and dry eyes top Leafly's complaints for Area 41. Take the first few pulls slowly and let them land.

Best For

  • Afternoon projects: the creative stretch comes first, so have the sketchbook out before you light it
  • Gas smokers who like a twist: OG fuel up front, cool mint on the way out
  • Mint fans: a Kush Mints grandchild with berries and hazelnut in the mix
  • Easing into the evening: Connected puts the relaxation after the creative phase, not before
  • Alien Labs regulars: both parents come out of that program

Not for: a first-timer planning to finish a gram alone, anyone who needs a sharp head for hours, or smokers who want fruit with no fuel at all.

Pairings

Food: something nutty and sweet to meet the hazelnut. A cannoli from Stella Pastry on Columbus Ave works, or an espresso at Caffe Trieste. Music: Daft Punk's Discovery, chrome helmets and all, then Air's Moon Safari once the body side shows up. Activity: smoke at home, then carry a notebook to a bench in Washington Square Park while the ideas are coming, and save the couch for the second half.

Construction

Connected's straight roll keeps the same width from filter to tip, where a typical cone flares out toward the lit end. Metrc lists it as the brand's 1g Straight Roll, shipped 25 singles to a case, and there is only flower inside: no kief, oil or infusion. The brand's Weedmaps listing for its straight rolls lays out the thinking. Straight sides and a three-stage grind the brand calls proprietary are there for an even pack and a steady burn; the wider 10mm filter is meant to keep each pull cool; the spiral tip is supposed to reduce clogs. Those are Connected's claims, not our measurements, and the listing does not name the paper. Alien Labs' straight-roll listings carry the same description word for word, which fits two brands that share a program.

Dosing

New to it: one or two light pulls, then wait ten minutes. The head side shows up first, and fast.

Regular smoker: a third to half, then see where the relaxation lands before going back.

Heavy tolerance: the whole gram works, ideally shared, with nowhere to be for the next couple of hours.

Storage

Keep it sealed in its original packaging, away from sunlight, heat and a hot car. The bright top notes are the most fragile part, so a joint left warm or open drifts toward plain fuel. Once it is opened, smoke it within a couple of weeks.

FAQ

Is Connected Chrome indica or sativa? A hybrid. Connected's strain page labels it that way, and so does Weedmaps.

What is Chrome's lineage? Area 41 x Creme de Menthe #14, per Connected's Weedmaps listing. Both parents are Alien Labs strains. Leafly lists Biscotti x Gushers, a cross Connected has not published.

Why is it called Chrome? The frost. Connected says the trichome coat is heavy enough to make the buds shine like polished metal.

What does Chrome taste like? Heavy fuel first, then tart raspberry and grape, finishing on roasted hazelnut and mint, per Connected. Weedmaps tags berry, grape, lemon, mint and nutty.

Is this the same Chrome sold elsewhere? Not always. AllBud describes a pure indica called Chrome with unknown parents. Candy Chrome and Chrome Dome are separate strains.

How strong is it? Connected calls it potent. It is plain indoor flower with nothing added, and the batch label has the exact numbers.
