PLUGplay DNA - GMO PLUG - 1g

GMO sounds like a warning label and gets spelled out like a pizza order: Garlic, Mushroom, Onion. The strain is Chemdog D crossed with the Forum cut of Girl Scout Cookies, and PLUGplay's DNA version chases that profile with distillate and strain terpenes in a one-gram magnetic PLUG. Diesel and earth with a sharp savory funk, a euphoric lift up front, then the couch. The pack prints DNA Anytime, the hybrid slot, while PLUGplay's own listing copy calls it a late-night indica. It only runs on a PLAY battery.

Genetics & Lineage

Chemdog D x Girl Scout Cookies (Forum cut). Spain's Mamiko Seeds released the cross in the early 2010s as Chem Cookies, and Weedmaps credits a grower known as Skunkmasterflex with hunting the keeper cut out of those seeds. Also sold as GMO Cookies and Garlic Cookies. The name has a second, less-told story: a joke about genetically modified ingredients in real Girl Scout cookies. PLUGplay lists the pod as Girl Scout Cookies x Chemdawg and has not published which cut or grower its terpene profile is modeled on. This is GMO's profile rebuilt in oil, not GMO flower.

Flavor & Aroma

Start with the flower, since the pod is chasing it. GMO smells savory before it smells like weed: garlic and onion over diesel, with pepper, a coffee note on AllBud, and, from the Cookies side, a sweet dough note Weedmaps puts underneath it all. Leafly lists caryophyllene, limonene and myrcene as its top terpenes. A 2023 ACS Omega study led by Abstrax Tech tied the savory, chemical end of cannabis aroma to non-terpene compounds, skatole in particular, and named GMO as an example. A DNA pod is distillate with strain terpenes, and PLUGplay publishes no terpene panel for it. So take the brand at its word: diesel and earth, with a savory, pungent note on top. Gas first. Garlic bread is a distant second.

Effects

Two stages, in a fixed order. PLUGplay's write-up has the head lifting first, the body going heavy and loose after, and a long, sedating finish. The strain pages agree: Leafly's top reported feelings are relaxed, sleepy and euphoric, Weedmaps describes a bright start that fogs over into a drowsy back half, and AllBud adds a serious case of the munchies. The reported negatives are dry mouth, dizziness and anxiety on Leafly, plus racing thoughts for some AllBud reviewers. A vape compresses all of it: the head change arrives inside a few minutes, and with high-potency distillate it arrives hard. The classic mistake is redosing during the pleasant part. The weight is already on its way.

Best For

  • The last hour of the night: PLUGplay's listing pitches it for late night, and sleepy is a top reported effect
  • Gas and funk people: savory and diesel-heavy, the opposite end of the case from the fruit pods
  • After a garlic dinner on Columbus Ave: home from North Beach, shoes off, two pulls, done
  • A fogged-in night on Telegraph Hill: Coit Tower has disappeared and the plan is a couch and a movie

Not for: mornings, first-time vapers, fruit and candy shoppers, or anyone without a PLAY battery.

Pairings

Food: lean into the name. Golden Boy Pizza's clam-and-garlic square on Green Street, anything from The Stinking Rose on Columbus Ave (they put garlic in the ice cream), or the full acronym from Liguria Bakery on Washington Square, which bakes garlic, mushroom and onion focaccia and often sells out by midday. Music: slow and low. Coltrane's Ballads, Sade's Love Deluxe, Massive Attack's Mezzanine. Activity: a movie you have already seen, the book you carried home from City Lights Bookstore, a bath. Nothing with stairs.

Hardware & Extraction

A PLUG is a closed-system magnetic pod with no battery inside and no 510 threads, so it will not fit a standard cart pen. It runs only on PLUGplay's PLAY battery, sold separately (Gemme Verdi stocks the PLAY Battery Kit under Accessories). PLUGplay's FAQ says five presses of the power button turn the battery on, and the brand lists it at 500mAh and more than 350 puffs per charge. DNA stands for Daytime, Nighttime, Anytime: strain-named pods the brand says are made with original strain terpenes, on what retail listings describe as a distillate base. EXOTICS are flavor-named distillate pods, and LIVEST is live resin from fresh-frozen plants. PLUGplay does not list the terpene source, a terpene panel or the pod's internals on its site, so the claims stop there.

Dosing

New to vapes: one short pull, then put it down for ten minutes. The lift shows up first and the heavy part follows.

Regular vape user: two or three pulls is an evening. Space them out.

Heavy tolerance: it will keep up with you, but GMO's reputation is ending nights early. Decide where you are sleeping before you start.

Storage

PLUGplay's FAQ says to keep pods somewhere cool and dark, out of direct sun and standing upright, since heat and bad angles are what make them leak. If the oil thickens and the draw clogs, warm the pod in your hands and try again. Keep it locked away from kids and pets.

FAQ

Is PLUGplay GMO an indica, sativa or hybrid? The pack prints DNA Anytime, PLUGplay's hybrid slot, and Weedmaps and Leafly file the GMO Cookies strain as a hybrid, indica-dominant on Leafly. PLUGplay's listing copy still calls it "the ultimate late-night indica," and the reported effects lean that way.

What does GMO stand for? Most people say Garlic, Mushroom, Onion, after the smell of the flower. Nothing is genetically engineered: it is a conventional cross of Chemdog D and Girl Scout Cookies.

What does it taste like? Diesel and earth with a savory, pungent kick, per PLUGplay. It is a gas pod, not a fruit pod.

How strong is it? Strong. DNA pods are high-potency distillate and PLUGplay bills this one as a heavy hitter. One or two pulls is plenty for most people.

Do I need a special battery? Yes. A PLUG only works on a PLUGplay PLAY battery. It has no 510 threads.

Is it the same as GMO flower? No. It is distillate with strain terpenes, built to follow GMO's profile. For oil made from fresh-frozen plants, look at the LIVEST line.

Is it good for sleep? We can't make medical claims. Sleepy is among the effects reviewers report most for GMO, and PLUGplay describes the finish as sedating.
