Connected - Gelonade - Cold Chain Cart - 1g

Half gelato, half lemonade, and the lemonade wins. Gelonade is Connected's own cross of Lemon Tree and Gelato #41, and the flower took first-place sativa at two High Times cups in 2018. This is that strain as a one-gram Cold Chain 510 cart: tangy lemon zest on the pull, a creamy, honeyed finish, a floral, gassy edge behind it. The head is fast, chatty and built for daylight.

Genetics & Lineage

Lemon Tree x Gelato #41, bred by Connected Cannabis Co. Lemon Tree, a Lemon Skunk and Sour Diesel cross, supplies the citrus and the fuel. Gelato #41, the Sunset Sherbet x Thin Mint GSC phenotype Connected also sells on its own, supplies the cream. Connected traces its start to Sacramento in 2009 and brought sister brand Alien Labs in-house in 2017. Gelonade flower won first-place sativa at High Times' 2018 NorCal Cannabis Cup in Santa Rosa and at the 2018 Amsterdam Cannabis Cup, then took the first indoor flower category at the Emerald Cup in 2021. Those trophies belong to the flower, not to this cart.

Flavor & Aroma

Connected lists limonene, caryophyllene and linalool as the lead terpenes, and describes a tangy, floral, gassy nose with a lemon start that finishes like honey. Co-founder Caleb Counts told LA Weekly the flower has "insane flavor like Starburst on your tongue," and one Leafly reviewer went with Lemonheads, so think lemon candy rather than fresh-squeezed. The inhale is zest and sugar. The exhale turns creamy, with a peppery, slightly diesel tail. Fair warning: ammonia sits beside lemon and pepper in Leafly's top flavor tags. Read that as a sharp, cleaning-product bite in the citrus. At least one reviewer hated it.

Effects

Quick, and mostly above the neck. AllBud says it starts as a tingle behind the eyes and down the back of the neck, then lifts into an energized mood. Leafly's crowd tags energetic, talkative and focused; Weedmaps adds uplifted, creative and happy. Leafly reviewers mention laughing at everything and reaching for it before the gym, and one who vaped it reported motivation and a carefree calm more than raw speed. The downside list is dry mouth, headache and anxiety, and a couple of reviewers describe racing thoughts or paranoia. It also brings an appetite. Two pulls, then set it down.

Best For

  • A morning climb up Telegraph Hill: lemon in the lungs, the Filbert Steps underfoot, Coit Tower at the top
  • Talking: talkative is a top Leafly tag, so bring a friend to a bench in Washington Square Park
  • A list of small jobs: focused is another, which suits errands along Columbus Ave
  • Lemon people: if you chase Lemon Tree or Super Lemon Haze, this is that profile in a cart

Not for: bedtime, anyone who gets racy on citrus sativas, or a first try at concentrates without going slowly.

Pairings

Food: follow the name. Lemon gelato, a cold lemonade, or a slab of focaccia from Liguria Bakery eaten on the grass in Washington Square Park. Music: bright and mid-tempo with a bassline you can walk to, like Anderson .Paak's Malibu or a Tom Misch record. Activity: an hour in the stacks at City Lights Bookstore, or a loop along the Embarcadero.

What Is Cold Chain?

Cold Chain is the 510 cartridge line Connected shares with Alien Labs. Connected says it came out of R&D, where some strains did better as live resin (extracted from flower frozen fresh at harvest) and others as cured resin (extracted from dried, cured flower). The line blends the two, with the live-to-cured ratio set strain by strain. The cold part is literal: Connected says the oil is extracted at sub-zero temperatures to hold on to cannabinoids and terpenes. It describes the result as single-source, true to strain and made from whole-flower inputs. It does not publish Gelonade's ratio, so we will not guess at one.

Hardware & Extraction

A one-gram cartridge on standard 510 thread, so it fits the battery most people already own. The oil is the live and cured resin blend described above, extracted cold. Sister brand Alien Labs, describing its own Cold Chain carts, says strains that did not translate to a 510 were dropped and that batches are checked down to the individual cartridge. Connected's description mentions nothing in the oil besides resin, but it publishes no full ingredient list, hardware maker or voltage setting, so that is where we stop. Our advice is general: start on your battery's lowest setting and step up only if the draw is thin. Heat is what flattens the lemon.

Dosing

New to carts: one short pull, two or three seconds, then wait ten minutes. Resin oil is much stronger than flower.

Regular vaper: two or three pulls is a session. If your thoughts start to sprint, you passed the right dose one pull ago.

Heavy tolerance: leave a few minutes between rounds. This one stacks toward jittery, not sleepy.

Storage

Keep it upright at room temperature, out of direct sun and never in a parked car. Heat thins the oil and can push it into the mouthpiece. Cold thickens it, so warm a chilly cart in your hand for a minute before the first pull.
