A Golden State - Shasta Bloom - 3.5g

Shasta Bloom is A Golden State's classic daytime sativa, named for the mountain the brand grows beneath and bred from two of the best known sativa lines in California: Super Silver Haze and Sour Diesel. It comes on fast, stays balanced, and carries the day without most of the edge those parents can bring. It comes as a 3.5g eighth of indoor flower, frosty enough that AGS calls out the trichome coverage in its own copy.

Genetics & Lineage

Shasta Bloom is Super Silver Haze x Sour Diesel, per AllBud and the strain's GrowDiaries entry, which lists A Golden State as the breeder, and Weedmaps tags the listing with Super Silver Haze. Super Silver Haze is Green House Seeds' Skunk, Northern Lights and Haze cross, the sativa that won the High Times Cannabis Cup three years running in the late 1990s, known for citrus, skunk and earth. Sour Diesel is the East Coast classic: pungent fuel and a fast, cerebral lift. AGS breeds from its own seed library and credits no outside breeder for the cross. The brand, Weedmaps and retail listings all call it a sativa.

Flavor & Aroma

AGS describes fresh, earthy notes that slide into a hazy finish, and Weedmaps' flavor tags fill in the rest: citrus, diesel, earthy, pine, sweet and woody. Growers list diesel, earth and lime, with limonene leading the terpenes and caryophyllene and pinene behind it. AllBud's notes go further, with a lemon-lime nose close to soda, spicy herbs and a savory gas underneath. Limonene is the lemon-lime, pinene the pine, caryophyllene the spice, and the diesel is pure Sour Diesel. Expect a bright, gassy jar that smokes earthy and finishes with the soft, slightly sweet haze the Super Silver Haze side is known for.

Effects

AGS writes Shasta Bloom as fast but balanced: an uplifting onset that carries through the day, a wash of body calm under a tide of creativity, and enough focus for physical or mental work. Weedmaps' tags agree, listing creative, energetic, euphoric, focused, happy and uplifted. The Sour Diesel side brings the speed and the Super Silver Haze side the clarity, and the body calm the brand describes keeps it from tipping into jittery. Expect a quick lift inside ten minutes, a productive couple of hours, and a gentle landing. As with most strong sativas, too much at once can feel racy, and dry mouth and dry eyes are the usual side effects.

Best For

  • Mornings with a plan: the onset is quick and the focus holds
  • Creative work: writing, music, design, anything that needs momentum
  • Active days: the Filbert Steps, a bike ride along the Embarcadero, chores with the windows open
  • Classic sativa fans: Haze and Diesel in one jar
  • Social afternoons: upbeat and chatty without losing the thread

Not for: bedtime, anxious first-timers, or anyone who wants a heavy body high.

Pairings

Food: a cappuccino and a pastry at a Columbus Ave cafe, or a bright, lemony salad at lunch. Music: Talking Heads, LCD Soundsystem, or Vampire Weekend. Activity: a gallery walk, a long ride out to the Presidio, or the stairs up to Coit Tower. Pairs with A Golden State's Night Sky for the evening after.

Cultivation

A Golden State grows indoors in Redding, in the shadow of Mount Shasta, and waters its plants with the mountain's snowmelt. The brand was founded there in 2018 or 2019 by Nishant Reddy, Rob "Bear" Masterson and Simmon Saraf. Plants grow in coco under LED and HPS light and are trimmed by hand, on hydroelectric power plus carbon offsets. Every strain comes from the brand's own breeding program, with roughly eighty-five in rotation. Shasta Bloom ships in the brand's powder-coated white glass jar with a gold mark, inside a printed carton in its own color.

Dosing

New smoker: one or two puffs, then wait ten minutes. Sativas this strong reward patience.

Regular smoker: a few puffs is a working morning; a half-gram joint is an afternoon.

Heavy tolerance: small doses through the day keep the clear head without the race.

Storage

Keep the jar closed and the carton on, somewhere cool and dark. Limonene and pinene are the first terpenes to go when flower sits warm or open, and the lemon-lime goes with them. A drawer at room temperature is right.
