Alien Labs - Brain Wash - Pre-Roll - 1g

Brain Wash is a collaboration between Alien Labs and the lifestyle brand Talking Terps, rolled here as a one-gram straight-roll pre-roll of indoor flower and sold as a single. Alien Labs labels it a hybrid and lists the cross as OZ Kush x Z #18, which puts Zkittlez on both sides of the family tree. The brand calls it very potent and sedating, a Friday-night smoke, and describes a nose of herbs, spice, citrus and mint over something sweet.

Genetics & Lineage

Alien Labs' product pages give the cross as OZ Kush x Z #18. California Leaf's May 2025 write-up supplies the backstory. The OZ Kush grew from seeds Hopelord of Talking Terps bought from 3rd Gen/Dying Breed Seeds in 2015, which he and Alien Labs founder Ted Lidie pheno-hunted together. Two years later the pair headed to Willits at 1 a.m. for a single Zkittlez clone from Green R. Fieldz of Terp Hogz. Alien Labs still runs both cuts, per the magazine.

Trace either parent back and you hit Zkittlez. Alien Labs lists OZ Kush as OG Kush x Z, and Leafly credits it to 3rd Gen Family Farms and Terp Hogz, who crossed their OG Eddy Lepp with Zkittlez. Zkittlez is the Terp Hogz candy strain, usually given as Grape Ape x Grapefruit plus an undisclosed third parent. Alien Labs has not said what the #18 marks.

Talking Terps is a cannabis lifestyle brand started in 2015 by Hopelord, Zombie Juice of the Brooklyn rap trio Flatbush Zombies, and PTA Haiti 3000, known for its Terp Crawford vinyl mascot. Hopelord and Lidie have been friends since 2013.

One name check: AllBud lists a Brain Wash from Grapefruit x Grape Ape with an upbeat profile and no named breeder. That entry is not this cross.

Flavor & Aroma

Alien Labs likens the nose to a busy spice stall: herbal, sweet, citrusy and minty at once. The brand says the pull runs spicy and buttery, sweetness lingers on the tongue, and the exhale finishes herbal, earthy and a little tangy. California Leaf, relaying Hopelord's take, calls it "a heavy smoke that leans on the gassy, Z terps." Weedmaps tags citrus, earthy, mint and sweet.

The parents explain a lot. Leafly reviewers of OZ Kush pick honey, butter and wood, a likely source of that buttery pull, and Zkittlez reviewers report grapefruit, grape and berry. Alien Labs prints no terpene list for Brain Wash.

Effects

By Alien Labs' account, Brain Wash is very potent, sedating and calming, a wandering mind that never gets lost. It pegs the strain for a Friday evening, either the slow slide into the weekend or a mellow warm-up before a bigger night. Weedmaps tags just two effects: relaxed and sleepy.

The family files point the same way. Leafly's OZ Kush reviewers lead with relaxed, euphoric and happy; its Zkittlez reviewers lead with relaxed, sleepy and hungry, so keep snacks around. Headache, dry mouth and dry eyes top the Zkittlez complaints. Written reviews of Brain Wash itself are still thin.

Best For

  • Friday night: the use Alien Labs pitches, the slow slide out of the work week
  • Zkittlez fans: Z on both sides of the cross, with OG gas from the OZ Kush side
  • A movie or a long record: calm and a little dreamy, with the couch winning by the end
  • Talking Terps and Flatbush Zombies fans: a collab label from two old friends

Not for: daytime plans, focus work, or a light smoker planning to finish the gram alone.

Pairings

Food: something rich to meet the buttery pull, like a cannoli from Stella Pastry, or garlic bread at home when the munchies land. Music: Flatbush Zombies' 3001: A Laced Odyssey, for the Talking Terps connection, or Alice Coltrane if you want to drift. Activity: an evening stroll past Saints Peter and Paul on Washington Square, then the couch and a movie.

Construction

A straight roll is built like a tube rather than a cone, one width from end to end. Metrc lists this as an Alien Labs 1g Straight Roll, 25 to a case, and we break the case into singles. It is plain flower only, nothing infused. Alien Labs' Weedmaps listings for its straight rolls say the brand reworked its gram from the inside out, pairing straight sides with a proprietary three-stage grind for a consistent pack and an even burn, then adding a wider 10mm filter for a cooler, steadier pull and a spiral tip meant to reduce clogging. Those are brand claims, and the paper goes unnamed. Connected's straight rolls carry the same description. Connected calls Alien Labs its sister brand, and the two run a shared breeding and cultivation program. Alien Labs, based in Sacramento, grows indoors in California and Arizona.

Dosing

New to it: one or two light pulls, then wait a full ten minutes. Sedating strains are easy to overdo.

Regular smoker: half the gram, then set it down and see where the evening goes.

Heavy tolerance: the full gram, at home, with snacks within reach.

Storage

Keep it sealed in its packaging or an airtight jar, somewhere cool and dark. The spicy, buttery top notes go first when a joint dries out. Plan to finish it within two weeks of opening.
